A brief summary of the water fluoridation issue.
- Fluoride is not an essential nutrient.
Although still commonly believed to be necessary for the development of teeth, numerous studies have shown this is just not true. No disease, not even tooth decay, is caused by a fluoride deficiency.

- Does Fluoridated water really benefit teeth?
Fluoride research showing a benefit of reduced caries (tooth decay) for fluoridated populations, in fact show a miniscule benefit to 0.6 of a ‘tooth surface’ (1 side of 1 tooth). There are 128 tooth surfaces in your mouth, if you have all your teeth. That’s less than 0.5% of your total teeth’s surface area. Is this benefit alone enough to the justify the entire water fluoridation program.
- Can Fluoride be harmful.
Fluoride has been proven to adversely affect numerous body systems. The thyroid gland, pineal gland, skeleton and teeth, (yes teeth) are all adversely affected by fluoride. Many studies have linked fluoride to impaired IQ, in particular in young children. It has also been linked to cardiovascular and neurological disease, type 1 diabetes, osteosarcoma (a bone cancer), chronic fatigue and depression.
- Fluoridating water supplies violates basic medical ethics.
It’s an obvious fundamental principle of medicine – do no harm.
No doctor can force a medication on a single person without their informed consent – yet somehow we have allowed our entire population to be given a chemical for a medical purpose, to be distributed regardless of age, medical history, or size of dose. All this without your informed consent.
- Most of the world does NOT drink fluoridated water.
Only a handful of countries still practice water fluoridation – a large number of countries have never tried it, and many others have tried and opted out.
Australia, Brunei, Chile, Guyana, Hong Kong, Ireland, Israel, Malaysia, New Zealand, Singapore and the United States are the only countries in the world to fluoridate more than half of their population’s water supply.
- The chemicals used to fluoridate water are agricultural waste products.
Far from being a safe, medical grade product, the chemicals added to tap water supposedly for our dental health are in fact the waste products of agricultural manufacturing processes. They can contain high levels of contaminants such as lead and arsenic.
